Aialik Kayaking: The kayaking trip meets at the Kayak Adventures Worldwide office at 7:30am before starting your day with a 2-hour water taxi out to Aialik Bay. Often the boat ride will encounter whales, sea lions, mountain goats, sea otters, and other wildlife along the way.
Better than a large tour boat ride, the water taxi is small and provides an intimate experience with your guide and captain. Learn all about the area, the wildlife you see and the natural history of Kenai Fjords on the way to and from your paddle.
Once in the fjords, you’ll spend the day paddling to Aialik Glacier. Aialik is a very actively calving tidewater glacier, and often massive chunks of ice will plummet into the sea below. Harbor seals curiously poke their heads through floating ice chunks, and black bears wander the beaches and hillsides nearby.
A perfect way to experience glaciers and mountains of the fjords… from the seat of a kayak!
Lunch is served at a small beach near the glacier where, if time allows, a short hike brings you to sweeping view across the face of Aialik Glacier- a wonderful spot to view calving from!
Check out Kayak Adventure's website for more details.
Heli Ice Hiking: A 3-hour adventure of a lifetime awaits on this spectacular fly-in helicopter assisted glacier tour in Seward.
Flying out of the Seward Airport the helicopter trip takes you soaring over rugged mountain peaks to a remote glaciated valley. Dramatically flowing out of an isolated alpine ice field, our destination just south of Godwin glacier presents some of the most exciting glacier hiking in the state.
Our helicopter will land right at the glacier where you will be outfitted with crampons, helmets and ice axes. Your guide will instruct you on how to safely travel on the glacier and then you’re off to explore an ancient frozen river. Spending approximately 2 hours on the ice with your guide, we will tour the fascinating terrain and features of the glacier; moulins, crevasses, massive waterfalls and rivers of melt water on top of the ice.
When the helicopter leaves the glacier, you have the option of arranging a customized flight seeing tour of your choosing. Soar through huge icebergs in a glacial lagoon, fly over one North America’s largest Icefields, and/or explore the stark mountainous topography carved from the last ice age surrounding Seward.
