National Forest Hike in Seward Alaska
Lost Lake Hiking Tour
The Lost Lake trail is something special to us here in Seward. Undoubtedly one of the most beautiful hikes anywhere, Lost Lake will be a guaranteed highlight of any trip.
Starting in the temperate rainforest just north of Resurrection Bay, the trail gradually climbs through a world full of tall spruce and cottonwood, devils club and pushki, blueberry bushes and large ferns. This bottom part of the trail winds its way through this gorgeous fairyland and across mountain streams to the crest of an impressive gorge.
The trail follows the gorge into a sub alpine berry bush heaven with spectacular views into the torrent below and Resurrection Peaks above. A little higher and when you look back the Bay, Seward and the coastal mountains open up into a panaramic's dream. At the "Y" the trail continues its gentle slope up into an ancient hemlock forest that is blanketed by high mountain blueberries.
Out of the hemlocks and onto the soft tundra and alpine meadows, dozens of little lakes and plenty of flowers over this expansive carpet. Once at our highpoint we look down onto Lost Lake, brilliant blue water in the ultimate alpine setting. A 360-degree view of countless glaciers and snow covered peaks, more than anyone can take in at once.
To get to this paradise we hike a trail that ascends for 7 miles, but don't let that scare you. We describe this hike as moderate due to its length, not its elevation gain. The beauty of Lost Lake is its subtle climb up, and with our trekking poles and easy pace, it's a great way to spend a day in the outdoors. We will also provide backpacks, hydration systems, and food- meaning all you need is your hiking attire and a free day.
The trip will take from 5-7 hours depending on pace and berry eating. More than likely we will be able to spot bald eagles, marmots and even bears (at a distance of course). There are many opportunities to see other animals you and our guides will be on the lookout for.
This nature hike into the Chugach is reserved by appointment and costs only $75 per person for 4 people and $100 per person for 2. Call or email for availability.
Price: $75 - $100 per person. Groups of six or more should call for group rate.
