offered With Either a Helicopter or Camping version, Our Multi Day Ice Climbing Adventure aims to put you into the hands of our well-trained and knowledgeable staff for 2 days of glacier climbing bliss

Two Day Ice Climbing Adventure

We at Exit Glacier Guides want each and every customer to walk away with a sense that they not only accomplished something unforgettable, but that their time with us was an unmatched adventure and learning experience.

We'll spend the first day on Exit Glacier learning the ropes, climbing walls and crevasses.  An all day tour, we spend the day on the glacier learning crampon technique, and how to ice climb, plus exploring all the cool glacial features on the Exit Glacier. The first day is a group experience, and you’ll be paired with one of our single day ice climbing trips onto the Exit Glacier. The access to the glacier does involve a 2 hour, largely uphill hike but it is well worth the reward of ice climbing on the Exit Glacier!

For the second day of glacier exploration, there are two options. Both are the same cost and private for day 2.

Option 1 is taking our helicopter and flying to a remote glacier for some absolutely incredible moulin climbing. Moulins are huge chasms carved into the glacier by melt water flowing over the ice and funneling into weak points caused by crevasses and glacial movement (see photos).  This tour day is completely yours to dictate, as there are plenty of options and difficulties for you to choose from.  The helicopter option for the second day will spend about 4 hours on the glacier.

Option 2 is camping at the edge of the Exit Glacier after the first day of climbing and then having the whole second day (and maybe even an evening climbing session on the first day!) to explore and climb all around the Exit Glacier. For this option, we’ll camp just a stone’s throw away from the glacier and be the only ones out there for the night. Your guide will cook a simple but tasty dinner and breakfast to replenish you after a day on the ice. For the second day on the Exit Glacier, it will be just you and the guide and you can spend all day on the glacier exploring and climbing. Tents are provided and we have rental sleeping bags/pads if needed.

Safety on the Ice

Our guides go through extensive training before they run their own trips

Glaciers are an inherently dangerous environment, and Exit Glacier is no exception. We've had a perfect safety record for 13 years, because of the care and attention we give to the training of each of our guides. We don't have novice glacier guides leading our trips, ever. We don't take kayak or rafting guides, and turn them into glacier guides overnight.

We are the only company guiding on Exit Glacier that does not have officially documented unsafe and negligent guiding practices.

When you go on a glacier with us, you know that your lead guide has had years of experience glacier guiding, and that any assistant guide has undergone a rigorous training program and emergency skills assessment before they are allowed to work alongside our leads. No matter who you choose to take you on a glacier in Alaska, make sure that you ask that company about your guide's training on glaciers and their level of experience. When it comes to training and safety, not all glacier guiding companies are created equally.
